First Aid Kits and Tips : Reducing Black Eye Swelling: First Aid for Minor Injuries

Hi! I’m Tracey Cullers on behalf of expertvillage.com.
In this segment, I’m going to show you how to get the bruising down from a black eye.
First of all, grab a can of cold soda and hold it against the cheek and the forehead
so it is not touching the eyelid. That way you will keep pressure off the eye, but you
will get the cold effect and constrict the blood vessels, which will lessen the bruising.
While you are doing that, somebody else can be grabbing crushed ice. Make up a small baggy
of it and have that person hold it lightly against the eye. Once again, so it’s very
lightly on the eyelid. Keep that for 10 minutes out of 15 minutes for the first couple of
hours. It will drastically reduce the amount of bruising. Another thing to remember is
not blow your nose as that will increase the pressure and could cause more blood vessels
to burst. Avoid any aspirin. If you need to take a pain reliever, I would suggest an acetaminophen
such as Tylenol. That is how to keep it from getting so ugly.
