Hazards in the Workplace

Hazards in the Workplace is part of the Career
and College Readiness Lesson Plan series provided by the California Career Resource Network,
California Department of Education. In this lesson, you will learn how to avoid
common workplace injuries and about rules that protect you at work. When you get your first paid or volunteer
job, you’ll want to know how to be safe on your job. There are lots of ways to get injured on the
job. Injuries occur in every work setting including
offices, warehouses, and restaurants. Each year almost 60,000 workers younger than
18 go to the emergency room, many of them with injuries that could have been avoided. In addition to avoiding injuries, you should
know the rules that give you the right to a safe work environment. Know your rights to a safe workplace and learn
to identify potential hazards and how to avoid them. This lesson and other resources are available
on the California Career Resource Network’s Web site.
